When it does not  interfere with other important activities, Ericson PTA likes to host a Family Movie Night 6 or 7 times a year.  Attendance has averaged around 150 at this fun activity each movie night this school year

Q.  How is the PTA monitoring that adults are accompanying their children?

Text Box: A. Everyone who attends is given a numbered wristband, which is used to track our admission, to make sure that all children are accompanied by an adult, and the draw for fun prizes when the movie is over.

It is extremely important that all children be accompanied by an adult who can be responsible for the actions of the children.  No more than 4 children per adult, no exceptions.  Drop-offs are not permissible.  The safety of our children depends on this.

Q.  How do Family Movie Nights benefit the students and teachers?

Text Box: A. Movie Nights bring families together to sit and enjoy each other’s company. They make our families feel comfortable being on campus in the hopes that they will feel more comfortable coming to volunteer. They allow our students to bring their parents to their “home away from home.” They allow Moms and Dads to meet the parents of their children’s friends and build new friendships themselves. Aren’t we all more comfortable letting our kids play at a friend’s house if we know the friend’s parents, and isn’t that a large part of our own childhood memories?

Q. Where do you get the prizes for the drawings?

Text Box: A. Many of the prizes for the drawings are purchased by the PTA.  Increasingly, some of the prizes, especially the larger prizes, are donated by families who support the efforts of the PTA and wish to encourage others to participate in this inexpensive, safe, family-oriented event.

Q. What if the kids are being unruly?

Text Box: A. Each child should be under the direct care of an adult.  That adult should be responsible for the child's behavior, but we understand that sometimes kids like to sit together away from their chaperones.  The PTA volunteers may ask a child to settle down or may speak to the adult.  If your movie-going experience is disrupted by a child's behavior or you see conduct unbecoming an Ericson Viking, please let one of the volunteers know.

Q.  What safety measures are in place?

Text Box: Each person who comes to the Movie Night is issued a numbered wristband so that we may have drawings for prizes after the movie. This is the primary way to insure that children are accompanied by a responsible adult because wristbands are not issued to the children without an adult present.
Wristbands are also not issued to unknown adults who do not have children with them.
We have several adult volunteers outside at all times who watch to make sure no children wander away. These volunteers are also watching for the wristbands to make sure no one is coming into the movie unattended.
There is a “fire lane” kept clear down the middle and across the back of the room so that walking through the room does not become hazardous.
Volunteers randomly patrol the MU room and outdoor areas to look for signs of trouble.
